10th Victim, The  (1965, Dir: Elio Petri)    Screened at WPFS: 10/21/97
You may not have seen (or heard of) this Italian sci-fi pop-art marvel, but it's influenced dozens of films you have seen--from Bond movies to "Austin Powers." In the way-mod 21st century, murder is a sport and Ursula Andress its biggest star--she needs just 1 more kill to clinch the crown: bleach-blonde cad Marcello Mastroianni. A stylish mind-bender, featuring cinema's 1st bullet-blasting bra, religious strife between sun and moon worshippers, garish fashion, and the reason why the Matthew Sweet-fronted band in "Austin Powers" was named "Ming Tea."

2000 Maniacs  (1964, Dir: Herschell Gordon Lewis)   Click for photo    Screened at WPFS: 9/25/01
Yee-Haw! The South is gonna rise again with this cult drive-in masterpiece directed by the Godfather of Gore himself, H.G. Lewis. The second installment in his blood trilogy, "2000 Maniacs" tells the tale of a group of Yankee tourists who wander into a southern ghost town (literally) that was the site of a Union massacre during the Civil War. Seems the locals are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the bloodbath, and these Yankees are the guests of honor!!! Starring Playboy Playmate of the previous year, Connie Mason.

This knock-out local indie film features some local talent who do their own kick-butt stunts. It's about a man who, at 3 in the morning, suffers a black-out and wakes up at 4am. The kick in the head is...what happened when he blacked-out and why are people chasing him?

25 Cents Before Noon  (1984, Dir: Jeff Krulik)    Screened at WPFS: 8/19/97
Come see what you have missed in this wonderful short flick that depicts what D.C. movie houses were like in the old days before the greedy evil land barons set in.
